
Couples for Christ Cambodia, with its various ministries, took a bold stand in the fight against poverty in Cambodia during the ground-breaking ceremony, last March 5, of the new Gawad Kalinga site in Dangkao district, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Located in Kien Svay, Champa is a Vietnamese community with a population of approximately 200 families. Reported cases of drug abuse and prostitution among teenagers alarmed the local parish priest which in turn opened the opportunity for the local CFC community to be involved. Twenty three houses are targeted for completion before June. This early the transformation in the people has already become apparent. During the groundbreaking, the residents warmly welcomed their guests dressed in their Sunday best. The district leader expressed his joy and gratitude because finally an NGO for community development is active in his area. He expressed his support in the work of GK and to drive his point home he pledged 15 kilograms of rice for each family when they start working on the houses. The work of community development in Cambodia is truly growing. Indeed this poses a great challenge and a great opportunity to share God's love regardless of nationality or economic status. |
