Sikad Ng Bayan:  Riding To Rebuild A Nation

In 2006, a group of cycling enthusiasts and Gawad Kalinga advocates got together and organized the 1st Sikad Ng Bayan Fun Ride to raise funds for Gawad Kalinga in the Philippines. "Sikad Ng Bayan" means "Pedaling for the Nation". This 1st Sikad Fun Ride was a success with more than 80 participants who enjoyed the 70-mile bike ride from El Dorado Park, Long Beach to Huntington Beach and back. All the proceeds of this 1st Sikad Fun Ride went to the construction of the Gawad Kalinga Sibol School in Calabanga, Camarines Sur. A Sibol School is a pre-school learning center for the children of the beneficiaries/families within that GK Village.

In 2007, the 2nd Sikad Ng Bayan Fun Ride was again held this time starting at the Yorba Regional Park, Anaheim, all the way to Seal Beach and back, with more than 160 participants enjoying the 70-mile bike ride. All the proceeds of this 2nd fun ride went to the construction of the GK Sibol School in Gravahan, Davao Del Norte in the Philippines.

On April 26, 2008, join the 3rd Sikad Ng Bayan Fun Ride at the Yorba Linda Regional Park in Anaheim, CA. Ride distances are 24 miles, 44 miles and 70 miles starting at 7 am at Pavilion 3. Registration is $60 which includes a free ride jersey and lunch. There will be water and bike support along the route. This ride is for the benefit of the Gawad Kalinga Sibol School Program and proceeds will used for the construction of the 3rd Sikad Sibol School.
